A musical journey from Cyprus to Aragon, 1400-1420

Programme: Jacopo da Bologna, Francesco Landini, Johannes Ciconia

When Charlotte de Bourbon joined her future husband King Janus I of Cyprus in Nicosia in 1411, her lavish retinue included many musicians. Canto Coronato assembled their musical journey from three sources: Codex Cyprus preserved in Torino offers a clear picture of the musical life on the island; the Squarcialupi Codex represents the largest and most beautifully produced manuscript anthology of Italian music of the time; the last section of the programme is devoted to the sacred repertoire heard from Aragon to Naples at the time of the Great Schism.
