»Beowulf«
The Anglo-Saxon epic in performance

With Slovenian titles and an introduction by translator Marjan Strojan

The Anglo-Saxon epic poem known as Beowulf survives in a single manuscript dating from the early 11th century. The story has its roots in the art of the bardic story-teller and reciter, whose services were essential to the fabric of tribal society in early medieval England. In his legendary performance, Benjamin Bagby combines theatre and music, performing the classic tale of King Hrothgar, the monster Grendel, and the hero Beowulf in the original Anglo-Saxon (with Slovenian surtitles), using the entire range of his voice and accompanying himself on a six-stringed harp.
