Rudolf Lutz organ
Applicants for organ posts were traditionally required to improvise preludes, fugues, organ trios and various chorale elaborations. Bach’s skills as an improviser were extraordinary, and his son Wilhelm Friedemann claimed that his father’s improvisations were even more solemn, dignified and sublime than his written compositions. The phenomenal Swiss improviser Rudolf Lutz revives this practice in a particularly convincing and communicative way.
